Contests For Writers And Poets in Africa: Get Prepared

Are you a writer and/or poet in Nigeria or Africa as a whole and you have always complained about non availability of contests, the truth is its either you are not getting the necessary information or you are just too lazy or scared to enter these contests..., some of the contests entered here are already over, the essence of this post is to get you prepared for the next time they would be held. Stop being lazy and start writing and please when you win just remember me.



1.  Etisalat Prize For Literature :
 Apart from Etisalat being the best network provider in Nigeria (currently using their data plan and friend, its fast) they also aim at promoting the talents we have in Africa. This contest is for first time writers of published fiction books and the prize money is 15, 000 pounds and other benefits. 2. The Caine Prize For Literature :
This prize for literature is named after late Sir Micheal Caine, this contest is open to writers anywhere in Africa who have works published in ENGLISH, please do not try to find out why the 'English' was capitalized. Click the link above for more information on how to enter, however if you are really good please do not contest, at least i would have one less competitor to deal with.


3. Africa Book Club Short Story Competition
 This competition is for all kind of short stories, fiction, non fiction, but it must be set in Africa and related to the African society. You entry should not be more than 3500 words and must not be less than 1000 words and best of all the contest is every month and you can send your entries at anytime.


4. The Global Short Story Competition
This is another monthly competition for all and sundry, even to the baking deserts of Africa. If you really belief your stories are that good, even if you don't belief your stories are that good you should still enter. You do not know who is reading and you never can tell how far your stories would go.However, you need a 5 pounds entry fee for this one. Please don't give up already.
